2006 Coty Call For Entrants
To all members of the Central California chapter of NARI
We are pleased to announce the 2006 NARI Central California chapter Contractor of the Year (CotY) awards program, and we invite all our members to participate.
This year, there are 23 categories to enter your projects. In the Residential area, categories include Kitchen, Bath, Interior, Addition, Exterior, Specialty, Entire House, Historical Renovation/Restoration, and Universal Design. In the Commercial area, categories include Exterior, Commercial Specialty, & Universal Design. All projects entered must be an improvement or an addition to an existing structure. Entries for new buildings will not be accepted and all projects must have been completed between April 1, 2005 and August 31, 2006.
It’s never too early to start planning! The deadline for entries is Friday Sept. 15, 2006. All entries must be received by 5:00pm.
Only members of the Central California chapter of NARI are eligible to participate. Each entrant must be a member in good standing. However, if a contractor is not currently a chapter member, it is not too late to join and enter a project or two in the contest. A member company may enter multiple projects in multiple categories and may enter more than one project in the same category, but the same project may only be entered in one category.
To win a CotY, projects must have an outstanding or insightful approach or result, and must be significantly better than average. Some of the factors taken into consideration during judging include the degree to which the expressed needs of the client were met, evidence of superior craftsmanship, overcoming difficult obstacles, and the innovated uses of materials and/or methods of construction used. When you prepare your project binder, it is recommended that high quality of the photos of the work be included, and that “before” and “after” pictures are taken from the same angle. The binder should be put together in a logical order with descriptions kept short and precise. An impartial panel of judges, who are experts from within the industry and associated fields, select the CotY award winners. All projects are judged anonymously. No one but the CotY committee chairman will know who this year’s judges are. The judges will not know who completed the projects until after the judging is completely finished. NOTE: you are also required to submit your photos on CD in high resolution format for printing and placing on display at the Fresno HomeShow & the Visalia HomeShows as well as for inclusion on our website.
Winners will be announced and awards given at the NARI Central CA Evening of Excellence Banquet on Saturday, October 14, 2006, except for the consumer choice award, which will be announced at our November Elections & Awards dinner on Nov. 21, 2006. Winning entries will be on display in the NARI booth at the Fresno Fall Home Improvement Show on October 27, 28 & 29, 2006 as well as the Visalia Home Expo.
This competition is modeled after the NARI National Contractor of the Year competition, but in no way is it a preliminary qualification for the National competition. Our local competition will be completed in time for entry into the Regional & National competitions. Every NARI member is encouraged to compete in the Regional & National competitions.
